Bastione
Cyprus
Old Nicosia (Lefkosia) lies within its distinctive star shape walls which were built in 1567 by the Venetians. About six kilometres in length, there are eleven arrow-shaped bastions jutting from the wall and three entrance gates - the Famagusta, Paphos and Kyrenia.
The rich historical part of the city of Nicosia lies within its old city walls. Snuggling between the old Famagusta Gate and the Melina Melcouri Hall is the Bastione Restaurant Bar which is a popular meeting place for friends and couples and has a great reputation for its Mediterranean oriented menu with Oriental touches.
On arrival, many diners enjoy a drink at the bar which is close to the entrance. The restaurant has a relaxing and casual ambience emphasised by soothing music and staff who work as discreetly as possible so that conversation flows.
During the winter, the restaurant is warm and cosy with a clever blend of old and new interior design, whilst in the summer, diners sit outside in the garden, enjoying the warm balmy evenings. The dishes on the menu change regularly since most are made using fresh seasonal ingredients.
For those who enjoy a grand finale to their meal it is essential to leave room for a dessert because there are some irresistible options including yoghurt cheesecake with sour cherry sauce and a delicious contemporary dessert of frothy plain chocolate with ice cream.
An excellent comprehensive and well prised wine list can be enjoyed, with labels from around the world.
