The Wine Festival was inspired by the ancient festivals dedicated to the God of wine, Dionysus, and honours the long island’s tradition of winemaking. It was organised for the first time in 1961 and since then it has become an established annual event of merrymaking and fun, offering a joyful atmosphere to visitors from all over Cyprus and abroad. Guests, both locals and foreigners, get the chance to taste different local wines offered free of charge in unlimited quantities and join in the “pigéage, the grape-stomping! Enjoy traditional Cypriot food, folkloric dances, songs and theatrical performances from local and international artistic groups in a festive atmosphere.
