The island of Cyprus prepares for yet another innovative and exciting Cyprus Rally. One of the substantial differences with previous years is the change of scenery with the Rally being based in Larnaca, instead of Nicosia, for the first time ever! All procedures, Start and Finish Ceremonies, Headquarters and the Service Park itself will be based in Larnaca right in front of the Mediterranean sea.
Cyprus Rally will be the fourth round of the European Rally Championship and will take place from the 15th to the 17th of June. Furthermore, Cyprus Rally will also host the second round of the Middle-East Rally Championship, underlining the uniqueness of our Rally for yet another year – the only rally in the world to host two regional FIA championship rounds!
The organizing committee has been working for months on delivering another exciting weekend of rallying action.
The move to Larnaca was embraced by the Mayor of the city but also the municipal council. The Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyras spoke of the wonderful news: “The Municipality of Larnaca will be ecstatic to host the Cyprus Rally 2018. We are very happy to co-host, alongside the Cyprus Automobile Association, this grand sporting event which will not only spark the interest of those who love cars but also gives us all an opportunity to shine important light on the subject of speeding and road safety. Larnaca has been receiving increasing interest from events such as this and that can only be seen as having a positive impact. We invest and hope in long-term gains that can only be found through such events. In tough times such as these, we must elevate culture, because sports are culture”.
Another year, another chance for crews to claim cash prizes at the Cyprus Rally with the Golden Stages returning once again. As always the Golden Stages are will be offering incentive to both international and local crews to battle all the way to the end of the event so they can take part!
All crews that are taking part in the 2018 Cyprus Rally will have a chance to claim a share of the 5.000 euro cash prize in the last two special stages of the event. The cash prize, which is a generous offer from Psalits Auto parts, sole distributor of the ENEOS Motor Oil lubricants in Cyprus, concerns all crews, regardless of whether they are competing for points in the European Rally Championship, the Middle-East Rally Championship or the local championship. The crew that has the fastest total time from the last two stages will claim top prize, which is three thousand euros, with the fastest 2WD crew claiming a total of two thousand euros. The fastest local crew will win a thousand euros.
The Golden Stages this year are Lagia and Lefkara (11.49km and 19.82km in distance). Moreover, the last stage will offer a unique chance to the spectators who wish to see the crews and cars up close with the organizing committee scheduling a regrouping just before the final stage. With the end of Lefkara, all remaining crews will return to the Finish ramp for the ceremonial finish at 18:30 on the beachfront of Foinikoudes in Larnaca.
