Spectacular stage sets and an international cast at the 21st Pafos Aphrodite Festival

The 21st Pafos Aphrodite Festival presents an outstanding performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s astounding masterpiece “Macbeth” in a production by the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus with spectacular stage sets and an international cast.

“Macbeth” is to be presented on 30, 31 August and 1 September at the majestic stage of the Medieval Castle in Pafos.

The Artistic Director of this year's production is Vladimir Gridiushko, Director General of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, one of Europe's biggest theatres, who notes that the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the greatest and most mystic operas by the genius composer Giuseppe Verdi. Mr. Gridiushko points out that during the performances “we want to surprise, inspire and touch the heart of everybody in the audience. We want to give food for thought to your soul and the right message to your heart. We are confident that the atmosphere of Cyprus and the spectacular stage where the plot of the opera will unfold will add a special charm to the performance, new interpretations and allow us to do what we have to do.”

Vladimir Gridiushko highlights that “Macbeth” is the most bold and ambitious masterpiece of Verdi's early works. A typical, for Italian opera, plot with a baritone title role, with the new principles of interpretation of an individual aria, intense passion, but not erotic as the audience is used to, and the devilish, worst form of human behavior: thirst for power, revenge, envy, hatred... All these, combined with the beautiful music, make this opera stand out among the other works of the genius Italian composer. Mr. Gridiushko adds that the Production Director Mikhail Pandzhavidze knows how to work with this material - even when his decisions are ambivalent, the audience wants to discuss them and ponder over them again and again. Thus, this performance will not leave anyone indifferent or disappointed.

The Artistic Director of the production also makes a special reference to the soloists, chorus singers and musicians who participate in the Festival, explaining that they are talented, true and charismatic artists. “They are the diamonds of the theatre and our pride. They have been recognized by the biggest theatres in the world, they are the winners of international competitions and festivals. They will come on stage and show their skills with excitement and appreciation”, Mr Gridiushko says.
