Melios
It is the owners, Menelaos Menelaou known to all as “Melios” strong passion for birds & animals that has allowed him over the last 30 years to create an amazing place with birds & animals from around the world. You will be impressed by the variety that you will see, from the rare & exotic to the cute & unusual and birds & animals that are unique in Cyprus.With so much to see, Melios Zoo is a wonderful experience and fun day out for all to enjoy!
There is a large variety of birds such as finches, parakeets, the beautiful talking parrots, the striking cranes, eagles, hawks, large variety of ducks, geese, the colourful selection of pheasants, chickens that you never knew existed, ostrich, emu’s, the unusual Marabou Stork from Africa and much more. Over the last years we have seen the arrival of some special mammals such as lions, tigers and Eurasian Lynx but there are also our older residents such as kangaroos, deer, antelopes and Hyena’s.
The mini farm is great fun too with ponies, goats, sheep, mini Zebu’s (cow) and the not so mini yet striking Watusi cattle and Highlander Cows.
There is a very special atmosphere here at Melios, whether it’s the paths that lead you in around the park that are amongst the trees, plants and aromatic shrubs. The excitement as you can’t wait to see what the next bird or animal will be and the sounds that you can hear near and far. What makes it also enjoyable is that you can actually see the animals up close and many of our four legged friends enjoy the carobs that you can purchase to feed them. You can enter the enclosure and feed the Ringed-tailed Lemurs (contact us for further details) and hold one of the many friendly parrots.
There is a large playground that covers all age groups and allows even the toddlers to share in the fun. The cafeteria, not a coincidence that it is situated right next to the playground which offers a variety of snacks & drinks and on most Sunday’s some delicious Cypriot kebabs.
With so much to see, Melios is a wonderful experience and fun day out for all to enjoy and those of you who are looking for a great place to relax this is the perfect place for you too!!!
