You can find Platanos family restaurant just going in the village of Kato Drys (coming from Lefkara village); it is almost impossible to miss the mesmerising scene of the restaurant’s large front-yard which is covered almost entirely by the branches of a huge, perennial plane tree. 

Platanos restaurant is offering something uniquely authentic to anyone who wishes to visit in terms of both food and space and it is only a 20-minute drive from the busy city. This stone-built restaurant is at one with its surrounding nature and thus constitutes a perfect relaxation spot for someone seeking to get a distance from the hectic rhythms of the city. On a cold winter’s day you can cozy up and enjoy your meal inside, by the warm flames of the fireplace. On a good day you can relax under the shade of the 112 year old plane tree placed at the centre of the restaurant’s yard. Baring such a long history the restaurant was actually named after the plane tree, since ‘Platanos’, ῾Πλάτανος᾽ ( Plá-ta-nos) is the name for a plane tree in Ancient Greek. Notably in the yard one can see an inscription baring a writing in Greek which actually reads: “The plane tree was planted in 1906 by G. Kafeji”.

If you consider yourself a foodie then this restaurant is a must. If you want to try a bit of everything, or a lot of everything as per the right cypriot way, then we suggest you try the restaurant’s meze dishes (served daily except during the weekend): starting with the traditional salad and home-made dips and including delicacies like “afelia” (pork cubs in wine and corriander sauce), “kleftiko” (slow cooked lamb), “ttavas” (oven cooked rice with meat and veggies) etc. and finished off with Mr Michalis’ —the owner's— mastery cooked “souvla” (charcoal roasted meat), which you can enjoy any day at Platanos. One can alternatively choose one of the homemade day specials which are equally appetizing. The food at Platanos is always made from the purest and freshest local produce thus it is always of the best quality and extremely delicious.

With its unique setting accompanied by the flavours of traditional cypriot cuisine at its best, Platanos restaurant offers something out of the ordinary even by country-side standards and thus it is definitely worth visiting!
