On warm evenings, it is lovely to stroll along the Phinikoudes promenade in Larnaca towards the Old Fort where a real culinary treat lies in store at Maqam Al Sultan... Lebanese cuisine ‘fit for a king’....

Lebanese cuisine embraces a wonderful array of dishes – alt of them made using the freshest ingredients and olive oil, garlic and lemon juice to enhance their flavours. Lamb is the most popular meat and can be enjoyed in a variety of different dishes along with beef. Chicken and fish.  Maqam Al Sultan is one of the best Lebanese restaurants on the island with authentic traditional dishes made using the finest ingredients – many of them imported daily from Beirut.
The setting for the meal is Maqam Al Sultan’s comfortable dining area with its views over the Mediterranean. For those who prefer to relax either side of their meal, or perhaps just enjoy a drink, the first floor lounge area is comfortable with a relaxing ambience and help on hand for those who would like to enjoy margila.

Dining Lebanese style is an occasion where the meal should not be hurried but enjoyed at a leisurely pace in good company. The meal consists of many different ‘taster’ dishes that are beautifully prepared by the chefs for guests’ enjoyment.

The meal begins with an array of different dips including creamy hummous and  Muhammara which is made from grilled sweet red peppers blended with walnuts and olive oil and flavoured with paprika and other herbs. The meal progresses with perennial favourites such as tabbouleh and fattoush before the arrival of a wonderful array of meat dishes including crisp falafel and  Sawda Djemarinated chicken livers in a colourful pomegranate sauce.  There is really good kafta and Lahem meswi which is tender steak that is grilled to perfection and shawarma chicken and lamb. Shish Tarouk is a popular dish of souvlaki marinated in a secret Al Sultan sauce whilst another favourite is Daoud Basha – meatballs.

For those who enjoy a dessert at the end of their meal, the Baklava are perfect with crisp layers of filo pastry and nuts, syrup and the wonderful taste of rosewater. For those who prefer a dessert that isn’t quite so sweet, muhalabiyeh is the perfect choice. This creamy milk pudding is again flavoured with rosewater and a good sprinkling of chopped pistachios on top
On Friday and Saturday evenings as well as great food, there is colourful entertainment provided by belly dancers.

As well as the perfect place to enjoy an evening meal, Maqam Al Sultan is also a popular for lunch as it offers guests two great choices – a Meat Feast, which is a Lebanese style ‘mixed grill’ or the Vegetarian Feast which is an array off delicious dishes seasonal vegetable dishes ... and both at the surprisingly good price of €12.50.
