The Pharos Arts Foundation, in collaboration with The Keyboard Charitable Trust in London, presents a recital with Mark Viner, recognised as one of the most exciting British concert pianists of his generation, who is becoming increasingly well-known for his bold championing of unfamiliar pianistic terrain. Winner of the Alkan-Zimmerman International Piano Competition in 2012, Viner has since appeared in concerts and recital all over the world and he has recently been elected as Chairman of the Alkan Society in the UK. For his recital in Cyprus, on 24 March 2017 at The Shoe Factory, Mark Viner will perform works by Liszt, Chopin, Alkan and Thalberg.

Mark Viner is recognised as one of the most exciting British concert pianists of his generation and is becoming increasingly well-known for his bold championing of unfamiliar pianistic terrain.

Born in 1989, he began playing at the age of 11 and two years later was awarded a scholarship to enter the Purcell School of Music where he studied with Tessa Nicholson for the next five years during which time he gave acclaimed performances at venues such as the Wigmore Hall and St. John's Smith Square in London. Another scholarship then took him to the Royal College of Music where he studied with Niel Immelman for six years, graduating in 2011 with both first class honours in a Bachelor of Music degree and winning the coveted Sarah Mundlak Memorial Prize for Piano after having gained the highest mark in the year for his final recital. Following a bursary from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, he graduated with a distinction in Master of Performance in 2013.

After winning the First Prize at the Alkan-Zimmerman International Piano Competition in Athens, Greece in 2012, his career has flourished and he received a number of invitations in the UK and abroad – to festivals such as the ProPiano Hamburg and Raritäten der Klaviermusik, Husum in Germany, Indian Summer in Levoča, Slovakia, and the Cheltenham Music Festival and Oxford Lieder Festival in the United Kingdom., His recitals and interviews have been broadcast on Deutschlandfunk and the BBC Radio Oxford, amongst others. Following his affiliation with Keyboard Charitable Trust, Viner has recently embarked on two extremely successful tours of the USA and Germany.

Aside from a busy schedule of performances and teaching he is also a published writer and his advocacy for the music of Charles-Valentin Alkan led to his election as Chairman of the Alkan Society in the United Kingdom in 2014. As a recording artist, his début recording of music by Sigismond Thalberg on the Piano Classics label has garnered great critical acclaim while his release on the same label of the music of Franz Liszt is currently attracting similar rave reviews.

Το Ίδρυμα Τεχνών Φάρος, σε συνεργασία με το Keyboard Charitable Trust του Λονδίνου, παρουσιάζει ένα ρεσιτάλ πιάνου με τον Mark Viner. Έχοντας αναγνωρισθεί ως ένας από τους πιο συναρπαστικούς Βρετανούς πιανίστες της γενιάς του, και με τη φήμη του να μεγαλώνει διαρκώς λόγω της τόλμης και της μαχητικότητάς του να εξερευνήσει το άγνωστο πιανιστικό ρεπερτόριο, ο Viner είναι πρώτος νικητής του Διεθνούς Διαγωνισμού Πιάνου Αλκάν-Ζίμερμαν το 2012, και έχει προσφάτως εκλεγεί Πρόεδρος του Alkan Society του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Για το ρεσιτάλ του στην Κύπρο, στις 24 Μαρτίου 2017, στο The Shoe Factory, Λευκωσία, ο Mark Viner θα ερμηνεύσει έργα των Λιστ, Σοπέν, Αλκάν και Θάλμπεργκ.

Ο Mark Viner έχει αναγνωρισθεί ως ένας από τους πιο συναρπαστικούς Βρετανούς πιανίστες της γενιάς του, και η φήμη του μεγαλώνει διαρκώς λόγω της τόλμης και της μαχητικότητάς του να εξερευνήσει το άγνωστο πιανιστικό ρεπερτόριο.

Γεννημένος το 1989, ο Viner ξεκίνησε μαθήματα πιάνου σε ηλικία 11 ετών. Δύο χρόνια αργότερα κέρδισε υποτροφία για τη Σχολή Μουσικής Περσέλ όπου σπούδασε για τα επόμενα πέντε χρόνια υπό την Tessa Nicholson, και παράλληλα κέρδισε τις επευφημίες του κοινού σε συναυλίες που έδωσε, μεταξύ άλλων στο Wigmore Hall και στο St. John's Smith Square του Λονδίνου. Άλλη μία υποτροφία του έδωσε την ευκαιρία να συνεχίσει τις σπουδές του για έξι χρόνια στο Βασιλικό Κολέγιο Μουσικής του Λονδίνου, υπό τον Niel Immelman, από όπου αποφοίτησε με αριστείο και Πτυχίο Μουσικής, καθώς και το πολυπόθητο Βραβείο Πιάνου Sarah Mundlak που απονέμεται στον πιανίστα με τον υψηλότερο βαθμό στο τελικό του ρεσιτάλ. Έπειτα από μια επιπλέον υποτροφία από το Μουσικό Ίδρυμα της Κοντέσας του Μάνστερ, ο Mark Viner ολοκλήρωσε με διάκριση τις σπουδές του το 2013, με μεταπτυχιακό Master στην Ερμηνεία.

Το 2012, ο Mark Viner κέρδισε το Πρώτο Βραβείο στον Διεθνή Διαγωνισμό Πιάνου Αλκάν-Ζίμερμαν στην Αθήνα. Κατά συνέπεια, η καριέρα του άνθισε και έλαβε αναρίθμητες προσκλήσεις για συναυλίες στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και στο εξωτερικό – μεταξύ άλλων, στα φεστιβάλ ProPiano του Αμβούργου και Raritäten der Klaviermusik του Χούζουμ Γερμανίας, στο Indian Summer στη Λεβότσα Σλοβακίας, και στο Μουσικό Φεστιβάλ Τσέλτενχαμ και το Φεστιβάλ Λίντερ της Οξφόρδης στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Ρεσιτάλ και συνεντεύξεις του έχουν μεταδοθεί στο Deutschlandfunk και το Ραδιόφωνο του Radio Οξφόρδης. Έπειτα από τη συνεργασία του με το Keyboard Charitable Trust, ο Viner ολοκλήρωσε προσφάτως δύο εξαιρετικά πετυχημένες περιοδείες στις ΗΠΑ και τη Γερμανία.

Πέρα από ένα πολυάσχολο πρόγραμμα συναυλιών και διδασκαλίας, ο Mark Viner είναι επίσης δημοσιευμένος συγγραφέας, υπέρμαχος της μουσικής του Σαρλ Βαλεντίν Αλκάν – κάτι που οδήγησε στην εκλογή του ως Πρόεδρος του Alkan Society Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου το 2014. Έκανε το ντεμπούτο του στη δισκογραφία με ένα άλμπουμ με μουσική του Σίκισμοντ Θάλμπεργκ για την εταιρεία Piano Classics, το οποίο κέρδισε διθυραμβικές κριτικές, ενώ παρόμοια επιτυχία σημειώνει και η πρόσφατη κυκλοφορία του σε μουσική του Φρανς Λιστ.
