This guided walk takes you through the Buffer Zone, or Green Line, in Nicosia, revealing streets and landmarks rarely accessible without a local guide. You will see the Venetian walls that encircle the old city, a unique 16th-century fortification renowned for its distinctive design.
The meeting point is conveniently located west of central Nicosia, near the old city and just before the Ledra Palace Hotel Checkpoint. Facilities and parking are available, and the main bus station is an eight-minute walk away.
The tour begins inside the UN-controlled area where the Ledra Palace Hotel sits—a building marked by history, once glamorous and now serving as the UN peacekeepers’ headquarters. From there, you will explore Ledra Street, a pedestrian commercial street reopened after being a divided and heavily controlled border area for decades.
Along the route, discover abandoned buildings marked by bullet holes, military outposts, barricades, and signs of life evolving on both sides of the city’s division.
The walk ends at Ledra Street and offers insights into the city’s complex history, current situation, and prospects for reunification.
