Akamas National Park

Akamas National Park is located on the western tip of Cyprus and covers an area of about 230 km² of precious ecological significance and gladly unharmed by mass development. Akamas is a spot of immense natural beauty that includes impressive, rare and diverse flora and fauna, hills, beautiful coastline, amazing beaches including the Lara turtle nesting beach, gorges and baths.

In Akamas there are about 530 indigenous plants. In spring, nature admirers will find beautiful tulips and rare species of orchids. The autumn flowering cyclamen is also found in the area. Visitors are kindly advised to protect and respect the environment and not to pick any of the flowers as it is prohibited. As regards fauna, the endemic Glaucopsyche Pafos butterfly can be considered the emblem of the area.

Explore the area using the many nature trails that have been developed by the official Cyprus Tourist Boards cross the peninsula, such as Aphrodite or Adonis trail, offering marvellous views of the magnificent bay and the unspoiled Akamas west coast.

For further adventures, get a 4X4 car and drive around the park. Make sure you have plenty of supplies such as water and snacks. During the hot summer months, especially July and August, avoid outdoor adventures like walking or cycling when the sun is at its peak around 12pm - 3pm.
