Description
This half-day tour offers you and your companions the unique opportunity to explore the rich history and vibrant culture of both sides of the city.
Explore Nicosia in a unique way and book your private tour now. Discover historical sites, enjoy cultural diversity, and experience an unforgettable adventure in Cyprus‘ divided capital.
On the way to Nicosia, we’ll briefly explain two different route options – and you can decide what interests you more:
Option 1 – With a historical intro
We’ll stop at the Paphos Gate, one of the old city gates built into Nicosia’s medieval walls. This is where you can clearly see the division between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parts – the wall itself marks the separation. From there, we head into the old town.
Option 2 – More time in the South
We’ll drive straight into the southern part of the Old Town and take a bit more time there. This includes the historic border crossing point known as “Checkpoint Charlie” and a visit to the beautiful Panayia Phaneromeni Orthodox Church.
In both versions, we’ll arrive at Ledra Street, a pedestrian shopping street that is literally split by the border crossing – a place where the atmosphere shifts from European to more Middle Eastern in just a few steps.
After passport control, you’ll step into a completely different world.
Highlights in North Nicosia
Once we cross into the Turkish Cypriot part of the city, you’ll discover a fascinating blend of culture, architecture, and history:
Büyük Han
A beautifully restored 16th-century caravanserai, now home to cafés, artisan shops, and local artists. It’s a peaceful yet vibrant place to wander, browse, or enjoy a traditional coffee.
Selimiye Mosque
Originally the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Sophia, this stunning building was converted into a mosque during Ottoman times. After extensive restoration, it's now open to visitors again – inside and out. The blend of Gothic and Islamic styles is truly unique.
Bedesten (the old covered market)
Just next to the mosque, this large stone building has served as a church, a market hall, and now a venue for cultural events and exhibitions. It’s one of the architectural highlights of the old town.
Traditional Bazaar
Nearby you'll find the local bazaar – a lively area full of small shops, local delicacies, spices, textiles, and leather goods. Great for a bit of authentic atmosphere or souvenir hunting.
We’re really looking forward to showing you around this extraordinary city
and wish you a fantastic time discovering Nicosia!
