Description
Snorkeling in Limassol is a unique opportunity to explore the warm Mediterranean Sea, clear water, and real underwater attractions that are easy to reach even for beginners. The coastline hides two special spots that make snorkeling truly memorable: a barge resting at a depth of around 10 meters and the remains of a sunken ship lying at about 6 meters. Both locations can be visited during guided boat trips or explored independently in calm weather.
The 10-meter barge is one of the most interesting underwater sites in the Limassol area. In good conditions, its silhouette can even be seen from the surface, especially during summer when the visibility becomes excellent. Over the years, the barge has turned into an artificial reef. Its metal surfaces are now covered with soft corals, algae, and sponges, which attract many species of fish. Here you can see litrini, sea bream, salema schools, and even barracudas that sometimes swim very close to snorkelers. The depth is comfortable, the water is usually calm, and the entire structure looks like a small underwater museum accessible without diving equipment.
The sunken ship at 6 meters is ideal for beginners, children, and anyone who wants to experience something exciting without going deep. The wreck lies on a sandy bottom, partially broken but still easily recognizable. Because it is so shallow, sunlight illuminates it brightly, making the whole place look almost cinematic. This spot is home to small reef fish, starfish, hermit crabs, and sometimes stingrays resting in the sand. It is a great location for underwater photography and for those who want to explore a real wreck safely.
Snorkeling in Limassol is comfortable almost year-round. From June to October the sea temperature stays between +24 and +29°C, and visibility reaches 15–20 meters. Even in winter the water rarely drops below +17°C, which allows snorkelers to enjoy the underwater world in any season.
Many visitors prefer snorkeling trips by boat, as they allow quick and safe access to both wrecks. Guides provide masks, fins, and instructions, help guests navigate the area, and show the most interesting points around the barge and the ship. This format is perfect for families, groups of friends, and travelers who want both relaxation and a touch of adventure.
Snorkeling in Limassol combines nature, history, and the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. It is an easy and exciting way to see real underwater structures and marine life without special training—just clear water, sunlight, and unforgettable impressions
