The European Art Gallery

The European Art Gallery is found in the heart of old Nicosia, in the grounds of St. John Cathedral, adjacent to the Archbishop's Palace.

The Gallery of Archbishop Makarios III Foundation hosts a unique collection of representative works from Europe, Greece and Cyprus from the Renaissance to modern times.

The paintings are divided into three sections: (a) the European painting by Van Dyck, Rubens, Tintoretto, Delacroix and others (15th-19th) with religious and mythological topics (b) the collection of N. Dikaiou with paintings, engravings and maps on the Greek Revolution (18th-19th centuries) and (c) contemporary art with works by Cypriot and Greek artists.

This is a set of paintings that has both the artistic and the educational value because it helps the visitor to experience the various artistic currents of different periods, the spirit of the era and its ethical and cultural values raised.

Some paintings, such as those on the Greek revolution, the struggle of 1955-59 and the 1974 war have a special historical value and are priceless.
