With the Museum’s collection of watercolours by inspiring self-taught Cypriot artist Costas Averkiou (b. 1917-1981) on display in the temporary exhibition 'Costas Averkiou's paintings', you are invited to attend a demonstration of a how a watercolour is created facilitated by one of the major Cypriot representatives of this medium. The demonstration will last for about 2 hours and 30 minutes, while you will also have the opportunity to discuss the idioms of watercolour with the artist personally.
''Kyriakos Lyras (b. 1948) is probably the only example of a Cypriot artist (other than self-taught painters, of course) whose oeuvre is exclusively made up of watercolours. Formally and thematically, his work does not escape traditional representation – landscapes, everyday scenes, etc. his long and systematic preoccupation with the medium, however, has made him a true master in exploring the material’s potentials, to the extent that he has successfully put it to less than ‘orthodox’ uses.'' - Dr. Antonis Danos (Art Historian)
