The Pharos Arts Foundation presents a recital with the extremely talented Christian Elliott – cellist of the Zehetmair Quartet and Principal Cellist of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and pianist Robin Green, described by Gramophone as an intelligent and sensitive musician with a genuine flair for imaginative programming. In view of their first recording together of the complete Beethoven cello and piano music, which will be released later in the year, the two artists will appear at The Shoe Factory, Nicosia, on 5 April 2017, in a programme of works by Beethoven and Schumann.

CHRISTIAN ELLIOTT cello

Christian Elliott is highly sought after as chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral player. He has been recently appointed Principal Cellist of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and he is the cellist of the Zehetmair Quartet, which performs string quartets written as late as the mid-20th century from memory. Recommended to that position by the renowned Steven Isserlis, in March 2014, Christian has appeared with the Quartet at prestigious venues and festivals including the Wigmore Hall in London, Berlin Konzerthaus, Vienna Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Zurich Tonhalle, Lucerne Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival.

Elliott is also the cellist of the Phoenix Piano Trio, established as one of today’s leading ensembles and keen advocates of both classical and new music, having so far commissioned new works by a number of composers. The Trio has recently recorded a double-disc compilation entitled Leipzig 1840's, which features works by Robert and Clara Schumann, Brahms, and Mendelssohn, and it is expected to be released later this year.

Christian Elliott began his musical studies with his father, guitarist Garry Elliott, at the age of nine. Having always loved the cello’s sound, when he was 13 he had the opportunity to start cello lessons and he completed his Bachelor’s degree at the McGill University in Montreal where he studied with Matt Haimovitz. He completed his studies at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music with Hannah Roberts and Ralph Kirshbaum. He has made an international sensation when, in 2009, he undertook Barber's Cello Concerto with the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra at only two days' notice. Two years later, he gave the premiere of Kevin Malone's 9/11 tone-poem E pluribus unum with the NPO and made highly-regarded appearances in the BBC Proms, the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Manchester International Cello Festival, and at Lincoln Center.

Elliott is a founding member of the Raeburn Quartet which performs on classical period instruments. Also a composer, he premiered his own string sextet composition at Wigmore Hall in July 2012, commissioned by Steven Isserlis to commemorate the Prussia Cove International Musicians Seminar’s 40th anniversary. Other works have been performed, amongst others, by the Arditti String Quartet, the Chamber Players of Canada, the Francoise-Green Piano Duo, and a solo viola work for Ruth Killius featured on her most recent solo disc. Currently, Christian Elliott is recording the complete Beethoven cello and piano music with pianist Robin Green.


ROBIN GREEN piano

“A light touch and an engaging tone” (The Strad magazine), Robin Green enjoys a busy career as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor. Robin’s CD, Dialog mit Mozart, released on the Gramola label with violinist Daniel Auner, was ‘Editor’s Choice’ in the Strad Magazine. His recording, Games, Chorales, Fantasy - The Music of Kurtág, Bach and Schubert, released on the Claves label was reviewed by Gramophone: “Green....an intelligent and sensitive musician with a genuine flair for imaginative programming.”

Robin has performed recitals in many of the world’s most important concert venues including the Wigmore Hall and the Vienna Musikverein. His festival appearances have included the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Interlaken Classics Festival, Davos Young Artists Festival, the International Musicians Seminar ‘Open Chamber’ Festival at Prussia Cove, the International Contemporary Music Festival of the Pharos Arts Foundation, and the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier. He has had artist residencies at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival and at St John's Smith Square, London.

Concerto highlights include directing a performance of Poulenc´s Aubade from the piano with the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Martinu Double Concerto with Sinfonia Cymru, and appearances with Camerata Nordica, Orchestra Vitae and Melos Sinfonia, amongst others. From 2008 until 2016, Robin was part of the multi-award winning Francoise-Green Piano Duo. The duo were the first prize winners of the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition, the Concours Nicati in Switzerland and runner-up prize winners at the International Schubert Duo Competition.

Robin Green is the Artistic Director of the Fort Belan Chamber Music Festival that brings together some of Europe’s leading chamber musicians. A passionate chamber musician, Robin has collaborated with Gordan Nikolitch, Valeryi Sokolov, Michael Collins, Bogdan Bozovic, Thomas Carroll, Rolf Hind, Christian Elliott and Llyr Williams, amongst others.

Former recipient of the Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal College of Music, Robin Green is now a piano professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Supporting his studies at the Royal College of Music and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Robin has participated in masterclasses with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Menahem Pressler, Ivry Gitlis, Ferenc Rados, Stephen Kovacevich, Dénes Várjon, Imre Rohmann and Rainer Schmidt.

Το Ίδρυμα Τεχνών Φάρος παρουσιάζει ένα ρεσιτάλ με τον εξαιρετικά ταλαντούχο Christian Elliott – τσελίστα του διεθνούς φήμης Zehetmair Quartet και Πρώτο Βιολοντσέλο της Ορχήστρας Δωματίου Ιρλανδίας, και τον πιανίστα Robin Green, ο οποίος έχει περιγραφεί από το περιοδικό Gramophone ως ένας ευφυής και ευαίσθητος μουσικός με γνήσιο ταλέντο για ευφάνταστα προγράμματα. CHRISTIAN ELLIOTT βιολοντσέλο

Περιζήτητος ως μουσικός δωματίου, σολίστας και μουσικός ορχήστρας, ο Christian Elliott έχει προσφάτως διοριστεί Πρώτο Βιολοντσέλο της Ορχήστρας Δωματίου Ιρλανδίας, και είναι ο τσελίστας του Κουαρτέτου Εγχόρδων Zehetmair, το οποίο εκτελεί από μνήμης ένα μεγάλο εύρος ρεπερτορίου που διαλαμβάνει μέχρι και το πρώτο μισό του 20ου αιώνα. Ο Christian προτάθηκε για τη συγκεκριμένη θέση από τον σπουδαίο Steven Isserlis, τον Μάρτιο του 2014, και έκτοτε έχει εμφανισθεί με το Κουαρτέτο στις σημαντικότερες αίθουσες συναυλιών και φεστιβάλ μουσικής, μεταξύ άλλων Wigmore Hall του Λονδίνου, Konzerthaus Βερολίνου και Βιέννης, Concertgebouw Άμστερνταμ, Tonhalle Ζυρίχης, Φεστιβάλ της Λουκέρνης και Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Εδιμβούργου.

Ο Elliott είναι επίσης ο τσελίστας του Τρίο για Πιάνο Phoenix, το οποίο έχει καθιερωθεί ως ένα από τα σημαντικότερα σύνολα μουσικής της εποχής μας, υποστηρίζοντας με πάθος τόσο την κλασική όσο και τη σύγχρονη μουσική, και έχοντας αναθέσει σε ένα μεγάλο αριθμό συνθετών τη δημιουργία νέων έργων. Ο Christian Elliott ξεκίνησε τις μουσικές του σπουδές σε ηλικία εννέα ετών με τον κιθαρίστα πατέρα του, Garry Elliott. Ο Elliott είναι επίσης ιδρυτικό μέλος του Κουαρτέτου Raeburn Quartet το οποίο εκτελεί σε όργανα εποχής. Έχει παράλληλα διακριθεί ως συνθέτης, και τον Ιούλιο του 2012, έπειτα από ανάθεση του Steven Isserlis, ερμήνευσε το δικό του σεστέτο για έγχορδα στο Wigmore Hall, για τους τιμητικούς εορτασμούς των 40 χρόνων από την ίδρυση του Διεθνούς Μουσικού Σεμιναρίου Prussia Cove.
