The Pharos Arts Foundation presents a recital with the fascinating German pianist Katharina Treutler. Acclaimed for her “great sensitivity and brilliant dexterity” (Classic FM), Treutler is a prize winner in a number of competitions, including the International Piano Competition Luciano Luciani in Italy, the Chopin Society Prize and the International Brahms Competition, and she has performed all over the world with such orchestras as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Her recital in Nicosia, on 23 November 2018, coincides with the release of her new album, Beyond, and it will include works by J.S. Bach, Liszt, Franck and Prokofiev. The recital is organised as part of the German Language Weeks and it is kindly supported by the Embassy of Germany in Cyprus.

Katharina Treutler has given numerous recitals around the world, performing in Europe, Asia and the USA. As a soloist she has collaborated with leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Armenian Philharmonic, Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, the San Diego Symphony, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and she has appeared in renowned venues such as the Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Tokyo’s Bunka Kaikan Hall, Stockholm’s Konserthuset, San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall, Bonn’s Beethovenhaus, amongst many others.
 
Born in Erfurt in Germany, Katharina Treutler received a diploma from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover. She continued her studies at the Tokyo College of Music and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris where she earned a master's degree. She also studied chamber music and musicology at the Université Sorbonne Paris, and she continued her studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, and at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.
 
Throughout her career Katharina Treutler has won First Prizes in several international competitions, including: International Piano Competition Luciano Luciani in Italy, Les Rencontres Internationales des Jeunes Pianistes in Belgium, the Steinway Competition in Berlin (duet category) the Grotrian-Steinweg-Competition in Braunschweig, as well as the special prize of the Chopin Society. She has also won second prizes and special prizes in numerous competitions, including the Bach Competition, and the International Brahms Competition.
 
In February 2015, the album Final Symphony was released worldwide with Katharina performing works of the video game composer Nobuo Uematsu, both solo and with the London Symphony Orchestra. Recorded in the Abbey Road Studios in London, the album reached the top of the iTunes-Classical Music charts in more than ten countries as well as the Classical Album Top 5 of the Billboard charts and the Official Charts UK.
 
Since 2016, Katharina Treutler has been teaching at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig. She is a Steinway Artist and currently lives in Berlin.
